Jewel Mathieson in New York

...shh,
children listen
the stories are retelling themselves
in the end
all the languages
all the voices
come together and hum

Fashion House Donna Karan is sponsoring the “Urban Zen Initiative,” a ten day symposium in New York focusing on wellbeing and patient advocacy. Jewel will be performing as part of Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rythms Dance workshop on May 19, at the “Dance Event” on May 24, and maybe at the “Trance Dance” after party. These events take place in The Studio of Donna Karan's husband, Stephen Weiss, who died recently.

There’s a buzz about the event, and many celebrities who support women’s health issues are expected to attend.

Jewel herself is dealing with the physical and emotional after-effects of radical breast cancer surgery, so there will be a poignancy in her performances not to be missed.

Here's one of her recent poems dealing with the new perception of herself.

Hardship becomes part of your medicine bag. If I can sooth sisters with newly enlightened words, then my own bad trip is easier to take. Enjoy my collections of poems, or better still, I'll perform them for you. Please email to discuss performances. If you’d like to support
my continued healing, please make a donation to the Jewel Mathieson Healing Fund at the Sonoma Valley Bank, West Napa Street, Sonoma.
